As a freelancer I participate and collaborate in many different projects as a musician, composer and educator. Here are some examples of things I’m part of

UNDERGROUND

I was very fortunate to be part of this fantastic project with performances in Lyon and Bergen in 2019. Playing different guitars, doing foley sounds and even a couple of guest-acting moments during this one hour live-movie performance. This is truly one of the most spectacular and complex productions I have ever seen, and participated in

Underground is co-production between the French company Scènes Théâtre Cinéma and the Norwegian company Neither Nor with Alwynne Pritchard and Thorolf Thuestad. The performance consists of the live shooting, editing and transmission of an hour-long film, the themes of which are derived from the work of Franz Kafka.

Here you can watch extracts of the performance

LYDBRUKET

I have a passion for creative music education and community music, getting people with different backgrounds together to make music. I worked with this most extensively when I was developing the Bit20 Ensemble outreach program from 2014-2018 (where I also had the fun Bitwaves app developed, check it out, it’s free) I have also done this type of community music work in the UK, Argentina and Singapore.

Lydbruket is a collective of musicians in Bergen working together to offer creative music workshops in schools and communities in Bergen and the surrounding areas. Together we have extensive experience in planning and executing these types of projects.

SCORES

I very much enjoy the challenge of interpreting scores and working with different composers on realizing their musical visions. Everything from traditional notation to text instructions or graphic scores. I have premiered pieces by composers such as: Maia Urstad, Kjell Samkopf, Rebecka Ahvenniemi, Knut Vaage, Alwynne Pritchard, Ruben Sverre Gjertsen and Erik Håkon Halvorsen. I also performed with Ensemble Currentes, Bit20 Ensemble, and in the Hedda-prize winner Coelacanth from Winter Guests and in several projects with Avgarde.

Here is the Spotify link to the 2022 release of composer Rebecka Sofia Ahvenniemis album Soundtrack of an Imaginary Opera, where I play acoustic and electric guitars. The album is also available on CD at Ravello records

Miss Tati´s Angola 70

I love playing in Miss Tati´s big band Angola 70, an eleven-person band rooted in Angola’s musical golden age. A full cultural experience combining Semba, Rebita and Soukous music and dance. With crisp percussion, dominating guitar, strong vocals, and deadly rhythm, this show will take you on a journey to Miss Tati’s home country Angola.

We have performed in festivals like Oslo World , Førdefestivalen, Nattjazz, Vinjerock, Træna festivalen, Festidalen

Collaboration with Indian Slide guitarist Siddhartha Bannerje

We initiated our collaboration with a concert set up by the Udgam Trust in Ghandinagar in India 2019, and continued with concerts in New Delhi and Ahmedabad in April 2022. We are working slowly on building this project together. In the past I have been to India several times studying Indian music, the Sarod ( with Amit Bhattacharya ) and the Indian slide guitar, or the Siddha Veena with Siddhartha Bannerje.

Bergen ImproStorband

I started this improvisers collective in Bergen together with colleague John Hegre in 2011 and managed it until 2021 when we passed on the baton to younger forces. I still participate as a musician when I have the opportunity

The band is an important actor in the Bergen music scene as a collective for musicians and artists with an interest in experimenting with and exploring improvisation in a large group setting. Our work is project based and we realize around 5-10 projects a year. Invitation to projects is by email.  If you are interested in joining our mailinglist please write to us on bergenimprostorband@gmail.com

Carpe Diem

In this show I’m playing flamenco guitar, classical guitar and baroque guitar, using repertoar from South American folk music, baroque music and classical (Piazzolla) and also flamenco styles of Ida y Veulta ( “back and forth” styles, flamenco palos influenced by South American music )

“Carpe diem is a music and dance performance about the indigenous world of life and death - told through flamenco and Latin American music. Experience a beautiful performance that celebrates life itself! Carpe Diem is based on the pre-Columbian Náhuatl culture from Mexico, and their view of death as an essential part of the life cycle. The performance is a tribute to life, in line with the thinking of the Náhuatl culture: We are all seeds, and after our death new life arises”

We premiered the show at Cosmopolite in Oslo in the fall of 2021, continued with concerts around Norway in 2022 and shows are planned for 2023.
